Remembrance Day 2022
Act of Remembrance - 11th November 2022
The 11th of November saw an impeccably observed 2 minutes silence across the whole school site for the twelfth year running. What makes this an even greater credit to our school community is that it is observed during break time. Whistles were blown across the whole site and a special ceremony of Remembrance was held outside the main school reception grounds. ‘For the Fallen’ was read, three wreaths were laid including one by Dylan Stone, former student, who now serves in the Royal Navy as a Submariner. Dylan said, “It was such a big thing that I remember from my time at Woodcote High School that I was inspired to come back and make a contribution.”
Many students attended in their services uniforms representing, the Air, Army, Police Cadets, St John Ambulance and with Scouts and Guides. Afterwards, one of our Year 12 students sang beautifully ‘Up Where We Belong.’
There have been special assemblies held for all year groups and fund raising for the last two weeks with Poppies and other items sold to raise funds for the Royal British Legion. The totals are not yet counted but are expected to be well over £500.
It was a wonderful moment where we came together as a community to remember the extraordinary sacrifices made by our service men and women.
